Fringe Fleadh Paul talks with Marianne McPhilips
Episode 5 of Fringe Fleadh, Paul Cox talks to Marianne McPhillips. Marianne's father was Jim McPhillips from Butlersbridge. This year Marianne is competing in the Ladies' Ballads - in English, and also in Irish on the 19th. Marianne was a regular visitor to Butlersbridge every summer when she was growing up and still keeps in touch with a few good friends there. In 1979 Marianne sang in the Cavan Song Contest with "Butlersbridge, My Home" - words by Paddy Connors, Jim's cousin, and music composed by herself. Jim is no longer with us, sadly, but Marianne remembers that he had a lovely singing voice - as did his brother Seán. Their other two brothers, Paddy and Eddie, played accordion, so it was a very musical family.
